Handi-Foil's Sarnorff Receives GMDC Lifetime Achievement Award
:Nonfoods and HBC trade association Global Market Development Center (GMDC) yesterday honored Norton Sarnoff, president of Handi-Foil Corp., with its 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award during its General Merchandise Marketing Conference in Orlando, Fla.
"Norton brought strong insights and guidance to GMDC's board of directors and staff, which were used to improve GMDC conferences and programs," said GMDC president David McConnell.
GMDC annually bestows its Lifetime Achievement Award on a person who has contributed significantly to the general merchandise or health, beauty, and wellness industries, as well as to GMDC, through his or her leadership. Sarnoff served as chairman of GMDC's general merchandise advisory board in 1991, and was a GMDC board member from 1985 to 1992. He has attended every GMDC General Merchandise Marketing Conference since its inception in 1970.
Sarnoff's career includes nearly 50 years in the aluminum foil and foil-based products business. He began his career in his father's business, EZ POR, which he successfully built and sold in 1979. In 1984 he founded Handi-Foil and developed new items and concepts to revolutionize the foil industry, according to GMDC. Today Handi-Foil employs over 700 associates and occupies approximately 650,000 square feet of manufacturing and distribution space in Wheeling, Ill.
GMDC serves general merchandise and health, beauty, and wellness retailers, wholesalers, and suppliers through business-building events and education and training; consumer and business insights; and information resources.
