Harris Teeter Donates $350,000 to Local University
MATTHEWS, N.C. -- Regional supermarket operator Harris Teeter and the Dickson Foundation have given $350,000 to the University of North Carolina at Wilmington to support student health and wellness.
The university plans to use the gift to update and maintain equipment in its fitness center, as well as enhance exercise classes and other fitness-related programs, according to a report in the Triangle Business Journal. The university also plans to dedicate a "Harris Teeter Fitness Center" in the student recreation center on campus.
Harris Teeter, a subsidiary of Ruddick Corp., has donated a nearly $100,000 over the past decade in various gifts to the university, according to the report.
The Dickson Foundation, which supports education, health care, religious, and charitable organizations, is led by Alan T. and R. Stuart Dickson, the chairman of the board and chairman of the executive committee for the Ruddick Corp., respectively.
