Harris Teeter to Help Hungry Celebrate Turkey Day

Harris Teeter employees and Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis will put together 2,000 Thanksgiving dinner bags destined for needy families. The Nov. 12 bag assembly will take place in tandem with the Matthews, N.C.-based grocer’s annual Harvest Feast Food Drive and Donation Card Campaign, with the bags to be distributed through the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina’s network of partner agencies.

The bags will contain all of the fixings for a Thanksgiving meal, including a Hormel ham, stuffing, sweet potatoes, buttery mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, cranberry sauce, gravy and apple pie.

To kick off the bag distribution, Davis and Harris Teeter associates will visit Bethlehem Center of Charlotte, one of the food bank’s 44 Kids Café sites, to deliver the meals to children served by that location. The Feeding America program gives youngsters meals and supplemental snacks to enable needy families to stretch their household food budgets further.

“Bethlehem Center is a great example of an organization which provides programs to at-risk children to improve the quality of their lives,” said Davis, who established the nonprofit Thomas Davis Defending Dreams Foundation to provide and promote programs that improve the quality of life for children and families.

Also taking part in the initiative are Harris Teeter vendors Hormel, Coca-Cola Consolidated, Idahoan Foods, McCormick, Kings Hawaiian, Bruce Foods, Libby, Del Monte, Ocean Spray, Jessie Lord Bakery and New York Packaging.
