Harris Teeter to Mark Opening of 200th Store

In celebration of the opening of its 200th store in Manassas, Va.’s Hastings Market Place on Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, Harris Teeter will go beyond the usual ribbon-cutting ceremony and speeches. The Matthews, N.C.-based grocer, which is also marking its 50th year, will give the first 199 customers at the new location a free reusable bag, while the 200th Very Important Customer (VIC) card holder to buy groceries there will receive $200 in Harris Teeter gift cards. The shopper will be notified by phone the day after the opening and must visit the store to claim theprize.

Additional events scheduled for the first three weekends following the opening are as follows:

• On the first weekend, the e-VIC Mobile will visit the store. During select times on Friday, Oct. 8 through Sunday, Oct. 10, customers will be able to sign-up for e-VIC, an extension Harris Teeter’s VIC card program. The free service tells shoppers when items they regularly buy are on sale and provides member-only discounts.
• On the second weekend, the Harris Teeter Ice Cream Truck will come to the location, and associates will hand out free Harris Teeter brand ice cream sandwiches to customers.
• On the third weekend, starting on Friday, Oct. 22, the Rancher Mobile Grill will be at the store during select times to distribute free samples of Harris Teeter Rancher Beef NY Strip Steaks.

As well as the grocer’s signature customer service, the new location will feature top-quality Farmers Market produce; a full-service meat department stocked with USDA Rancher beef, HT Reserve Angus Beef and HT Naturals Natural Beef; Fishermans Market Seafood; and Fresh Foods Market Deli/Bakery products, along with wide variety of national brand and private label items.
