Harris Teeter Offers $50K Reward After Robberies
Harris Teeter has offered a $50,000 reward through Charlotte Mecklenburg Crime Stoppers for information leading to the successful arrests of those responsible for recent robberies at the grocer’s stores in Charlotte, N.C., and the surrounding area. The Southeast grocery chain is also hiring more security personnel to safeguard its Charlotte-area stores, associates and shoppers.
“Harris Teeter is actively working with local law enforcement to aid its investigation in whatever way possible and hopes the $50,000 reward will motivate those with information about the crimes to come forward,” the Matthews, N.C.-based company said.
The grocer is continuing to meet with employees who were working at the time of the incidents, as well as other associates who feel traumatized by the incidents, during which no serious injuries occurred -- a fact that Harris Teeter attributes to “our associates following company procedures for handling instances such as these.”
The as-yet-unidentified robbers have struck three times in a little more than a week, at stores in South Charlotte, Cornelius and Fort Mill. Police have released a surveillance video of the May 29 robbery at the South Charlotte location.
Anyone with information about the robberies is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
