Harris Teeter Offers Monthly Fee Option for Online Shoppers

Harris Teeter has introduced a monthly fee option for users of its Express Lane Online Shopping service. Customers who enroll in the new plan will pay a flat $16.95 per month for the service, regardless of how often they purchase items online.

The Matthews, N.C.-based grocer charges shoppers $4.95 per order and, as a special offer, credits the service fee for all first-time users. Now, however, frequent users of Express Lane Online Shopping can opt to sign up for the monthly plan, which enables them to place as many orders as they like during a given month without racking up additional charges.

A customer who wants to enroll in the monthly plan can add the $16.95 fee to her Express Lane Online Shopping bill when placing an order. From that date, the $4.95 will be automatically waived on all orders for the next 30 days. At the end of the 30 days, shoppers can choose when they next order to pay the $16.95 fee again or proceed to checkout and pay the standard $4.95 service fee.

By offering the convenient monthly fee option, the grocer hopes to encourage Express Lane Online shoppers to use the service both for smaller orders during the week and larger weekly orders.
