Harris Teeter Raising Money for Breast Cancer Research with Fresh Promos
MATTHEWS, N.C. - Harris Teeter here is bringing together shoppers and suppliers in its perimeter departments to help raise money for the fight against breast cancer during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
From Oct. 1 through Oct. 15, shoppers will be able to purchase pink ribbon pastry items with 5 percent off the retail price. Proceeds will go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. As part of the special promotion, Harris Teeter will offer pink layer cakes, pink cupcakes, and brownies. Pink ribbon stickers will be displayed on the package of the participating products.
Beginning Oct. 18, Harris Teeter will host Pink Ribbon Produce, a fundraiser and educational event. All of the funds raised will be donated to local affiliates of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
Eight produce suppliers have agreed to give generously when shoppers purchase their products between Oct. 18 and Nov. 15. The participating suppliers and their products are Fresh Express Packaged Salads, Farmer's Market Potatoes from Nature's Way, Dole Tropical Gold Pineapple, Cut Fruit from Country Fresh, Broccoli from Beachside Produce, Tomatoes from Euro Fresh Farms, Asparagus from Alpine Fresh, and Mini Bananas from Chiquita.
Harris Teeter will place signage and supporting materials throughout the Farmers Market produce department, including shelf tags at each participating supplier's display, a five-foot tall graphic column to let consumers know about the program, and a brochure.
The brochure will encourage shoppers to eat more fruit and vegetables to stay healthy, and will include information about early detection and screening methods for breast cancer.
All 152 Harris Teeter stores will participate in Project Pink and Pink Ribbon Produce.
According to the American Cancer Society, 212,920 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in 2006 among women in the United States.
