Harris Teeter Set to Open First Wash. DC Unit
Harris Teeter said yesterday it plans to open its first Washington, D.C. store on April 22.
The 37,000-square-foot unit will feature all the typical Harris-Teeter accoutrements, including top-quality Farmers Market produce, Rancher and Reserve Angus and Naturals Beef, an extensive selection of seafood in Harris Teeter's Fishermans Market, and a variety of deli and bakery items in the Fresh Foods Market, the retailer said.
The store will be open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, while its in-store pharmacy will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Other special features include four self-check-out (USCAN) lanes; an in-store dining area; international foods and international cheeses; chef-prepared pastries and artisan breads; sushi; a fresh fruit bar; a full-service floral department; a wine consultant; and a red box DVD rental kiosk.
The chain also has a 50,000-square-foot store in the works, in the rapidly emerging NoMa (north of Massachusetts Avenue) neighborhood. That store is scheduled to open in the winter of 2010/2011.
"Harris Teeter has been studying the NoMa market for the past several years," said Fred Morganthall, president.
NoMa is an emerging mixed-use neighborhood north of the U.S. Capitol and Union Station in Washington DC.
A wholly owned subsidiary of the Charlotte, N.C.-based Ruddick Corp., Harris Teeter operates 168 stores in eight southeastern states: North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, Maryland, and Delaware.
