HEB Giving Away Dream Home in Texas
SAN ANTONIO -- Regional retailer H.E. Butt Grocery Co. is kicking off the holiday season with a gift as big as Texas and 100 years in the making. As the last customer promotion of the company's yearlong Centennial Celebration, one lucky South Texas resident will win one of two new homes valued at $200,000 each, plus $50,000 in HEB's Texas Home Giveaway contest.
"We wanted to conclude our Centennial Celebration in a big way," said Kate Rogers, HEB director of advertising, in a statement. "What better way to celebrate Texas families, thank our customers for 100 great years, and spotlight our busiest time of year than with a free home given away at one of San Antonio's most cherished holiday events?"
The first prize giveaway was held on Nov. 25 at the HEB Tree Lighting Ceremony in front of the Alamo. A similar celebration and prize giveaway will take place at Hermann Park in Houston on Dec. 2.
The Texas Dream Home Giveaway contest launched Sept. 28 and ran for six weeks until Nov. 8. Customers collected game pieces from their register receipts when they purchased participating products from Coca-Cola, ConAgra Foods, Kraft, P&G, and HEB store brand products, and, after filling in their 'floor plan' game board, they could redeem the game cards for a golden key.
Additionally, 100 golden keys were randomly distributed to customers, along with other prizes, including a year of free rent or mortgage payments, a year of free groceries, a year of free gas, or a home appliance package.
To thank its customers for its first 100 successful years, HEB conducted six customer contests throughout the year.
"It's been a rewarding year at HEB, and we wanted to reward our customers with a few party favors to thank them for celebrating with us," said Rogers. "In total, we've given away more than $2 million worth of prizes -- it's just one more way here, everything's better."
Over the course of one year, HEB has delivered more than 1.25 million pounds of food in 24 hours to Texas' 18 food banks; contributed more than $500,000 to education programs; fed more than 215,000 individuals among 25 Feast of Sharing events; launched the "Made in Texas" cookbook with 190 recipes from Texas families and celebrities; planted 100 tree saplings across the state from the historic Treaty Oak; supported more than 100 community festivals across the state; gained official recognition from the governor, the state legislature, and the senate; and secured more than 115 community proclamations across Texas.
