HEB Renews Commitment to Texas With More Stores and Jobs, Lower Prices
Regional independent HEB said this week it’s strengthening its support of the Texas communities it serves by building new stores and creating new job opportunities, lowering prices on a wide range of items, and continuing its community involvement.
“We believe that HEB’s strong presence in Texas is one of the reasons Texans enjoy some of the lowest food prices in the nation,” said Suzanne Wade, president of the HEB San Antonio division. We are committed to low prices, and are now priced even better. In the New Year, customers will have additional opportunities to save as HEB again lowers prices on more than 5,000 products that Texas families use most.”
HEB’s ramped-up expansion plans come at a time when many retailers and businesses are retrenching in the face of the current economic climate. Specific categories in which the San Antonio-based grocer’s customers will see significant savings include diapers, hair care and personal wash, pet food, laundry detergent, and paper towels. Customers will also be able to save on cereal, snacks and frozen foods, according to the company. On the stores’ fresh side, meanwhile, customers can take advantage of hot pricing on meat, produce and deli products.
The savings campaign will be marketed with new signage and highly visible shelf tags calling out specific products and price reductions. In addition, associates, known as “Low Price Ambassadors,” will walk the store, pointing out new savings to customers and answering questions. Additionally, at checkout, cashiers will highlight customer savings.
In 2010, HEB intends to open 13 new stores across the Lone Star State, resulting in about 5,000 new job opportunities. The company will also build a new distribution center in Temple, Texas, and will remodel and update more than 60 of its existing stores, creating thousands of new construction jobs. Further plans call for the grocer to continue investing in its 11 Texas manufacturing plants that produce such products as milk, ice cream and bread, and in its 17 Texas distribution centers that employ over 5,000 Texans.
HEB operates more than 300 stores in Texas and Mexico.
