Hen House Welcomes Bruce Smith Drugs
Hen House Market is welcoming Bruce Smith Drugs to provide its pharmacy services at the grocer’s store in Prairie Village, Kan.
Bruce Smith closed last November after serving the Kansas City-area community since 1955. The Fairway and Merriam Hen House pharmacies will be able to access former Bruce Smith customers immediately in both dispensing and delivering prescription medications.
A grand opening for Hen House Pharmacy in The Village Hen House Market is scheduled for April.
“It makes good sense to establish a full-service pharmacy in the Hen House’s Village location to continue the longstanding tradition Bruce Smith Drugs developed over the decades,” said David Ball, chairman, president and CEO of Ball’s Foods. “Hen House is a premier local neighborhood supermarket with passionate teammates dedicated to providing superior customer service while supporting the values of health, wellness, family and community. Bruce Smith’s commitment to these same standards makes this an ideal solution for everyone.”
Hen House Pharmacy in The Village will feature faces familiar to Bruce Smith Drugs customers, including pharmacist Debbie Richmond, daughter of Bruce Smith owner Bill Richmond; pharmacy technician Charisse Golden; and delivery driver Joe Castro.
“It’s exciting to join Hen House, which has built a wonderful reputation over the decades,” Richmond said. “Being able to collaborate and offer customers top-notch pharmacy services, continuing the Bruce Smith tradition, is remarkable.”
According to Amanda Applegate, pharmacy clinical services coordinator for Ball’s Foods, the neighborhood feel of Hen House Market in The Village will be enhanced, along with services offered to customers, with the addition of Hen House Pharmacy, staffed by former Bruce Smith Drugs personnel.
“Hen House Market is known as a neighborhood market with high-quality, customer-focused services, and certainly the Hen House Pharmacy will reflect that,” she said. “We’re excited to offer another convenience to customers in not only filling their prescriptions, but in delivering them, too.”
Founded in 1923 in Kansas City, Kan., Ball’s Food Stores operates 27 Hen House and Ball’s Price Chopper stores, one PayLess Discount Foods, and one Sunfresh Market store throughout the Kansas City metro area.
