Hiller’s Bows Pre-emptive Price-Cutting Program

Beginning this week, Hiller’s Markets said it plans to lower its retail prices by 10 to 50 percent, using a new green shelf tag program that will appear in every aisle of the independent’s seven metro Detroit stores.

Jim Hiller, c.e.o. of the Southfield, Mich.-based Hiller’s Markets, said he went directly to dozens of product manufacturers to solicit price reductions to help his customers in the hard-hit Michigan market save money at the register.

“Grocery costs have risen steadily over the past year,” said Hiller, whose family-owned company has operated in metro Detroit for more than 65 years. “Although I am convinced that my company’s costs will drop in the coming months, I am lowering prices in every aisle throughout my stores to help my customers weather this especially difficult period for Michigan.”

“I have always been proud of my company, which is built on the strength of relationships with loyal customers and manufacturers,” added Hiller. “In today’s tough economic climate, I am even more proud to be a Michigan business owner dedicated to rebuilding our economy.”
