That's the topic of Progressive Grocer's January poll, which aims to take the temperature of how lower gasoline prices – which have dipped below $2 per gallon in certain parts of the country in recent weeks to the equivalent of 45 percent from year-ago levels – are benefitting sales in the nation's supermarkets.
While the lower pump prices won’t last forever, economists estimate that the nation's consumers are saving $200 million a day vs. last year, with positive ripple effects being felt across all parts of the supply chain.
