H.T. Hackney to Close Oneida, Tenn. Warehouse
The Knoxville, Tenn.-based H.T. Hackney Company supplies over 20,000 independent grocers in 20 states east of the Mississippi, but lack of business in the Scott County, Tenn. area, is forcing Hackney to close its warehouse in Oneida, Tenn. around Nov. 1.
"Oneida is having a hard time with growth," said Hackney chairman and ceo Bill Sansom, in an interview reported in the Scott County Independent Herald. "Our suppliers are pushing up on the volume we have to buy, and the volume there isn't what we need it to be."
Sansom said that Hackney had been purchasing from other warehouses to stock the Oneida warehouse for some time. "Basically you just get to where you just have no choice," he said.
Hackney employs 29 workers at the Oneida warehouse. Sansom said it was possible some might transfer to other Hackney locations.
