Hy-Vee Updates Plans for Growth

November 21, 2002 - Quad City, IA -- The Hy-Vee supermarket chain plans to spend $190 million next year on expansion, adding new grocery stores, liquor stores and gas stations.

Ron Pearson, company chairman and CEO, did not identify specific investment sites, other than to say that Iowa would not be the main recipient of grocery store building because the company already has a good network in the state.

In the Quad-Cities, Hy-Vee has three new store projects in various stages. Construction is well under way at the new Davenport store at 53rd Street and Utica Ridge Road. It is expected to open next year. Crews also are preparing another Davenport site for construction. A former Eagle and Walgreens stores, as well as a nearby house, were demolished to make way for a new store at Locust Street and Lincoln Road. Construction on the 70,000-square-foot store in Davenport's west end will begin early next year.
