Jeff Noddle Adds Chairman Title to Duties at Supervalu

MINNEAPOLIS - Jeff Noddle, CEO and president of Supervalu Inc., assumed the additional role of chairman of the board at last week's annual shareholders' meeting in St. Louis, Mo.

Noddle, who was elected chairman by the board of directors, succeeds long-time chairman, director and former CEO Mike Wright, who retired.

"As the sixth largest company in the grocery channel, Supervalu clearly has established itself as an industry leader," Noddle said. "During the months ahead, we will be building on our momentum and work diligently to implement business plans that include accelerating the growth at Save-A-Lot, expanding our store base in our key retail markets, and continuing the efficiency initiatives in distribution."

This promotion for Noddle caps a long-term career in both retail food and distribution-related positions. Since joining Supervalu in 1976 as director of retail operations at the J.M. Jones division, Champaign, Ill., he served as president of Supervalu's Fargo, N.D. and Miami, Fla. divisions, from 1982-1985. He was promoted to corporate vice president, merchandising, in 1985 and corporate senior vice president, marketing, in 1988. He was named executive vice president, marketing, in 1992, with responsibility for the company's retail operations, along with Supervalu pharmacy, wholesale merchandising and procurement and the company's international operations. He was promoted to executive vice president, chief operating officer for Supervalu?s distribution food companies in 1995, and then elected to president and chief operating officer in 2000. He was named CEO in June 2001.

A native of Omaha, Neb., Noddle serves on the boards of Food Marketing Institute (FMI); Food Distributors International (FDI); Donaldson Company, Inc.; IGA, Inc.; and General Cable Corporation. Noddle serves on the Executive Committee of the Minnesota Business Partnership, a public policy association of CEOs from Minnesota's largest corporations. Noddle also is on the board of trustees for the Boys and Girls Club of the Twin Cities and chairs the major firms division of the Twin Cities United Way campaign.
