J.R. Campbell to Join Fleming as Executive VP, Merchandising And Supply
DALLAS - Fleming on Wednesday announced J.R. Campbell will join the company as executive vice president, merchandising and supply. Most recently, Campbell served as president, global sourcing division for Wal-Mart Stores Inc.
Campbell will join Fleming in early 2002. In this new position, Campbell will lead Fleming's central procurement, merchandising and supply chain management to best-in-class status. He will report to Fleming Chairman and CEO Mark Hansen.
"J.R. is renown throughout the industry as a world-class expert in procurement, merchandising and supply chain management," said Hansen. "Now that Fleming has successfully centralized procurement, we have a tremendous opportunity to build on what the team has accomplished for customers, vendors and the company. I am excited J.R. will be leading the enhancements to Fleming's procurement, merchandising and supply chain management operation."
During his 20-plus year career at Wal-Mart, Campbell served primarily in product sourcing and merchandising leadership positions. In 1985, Campbell led the Wal-Mart import operation, based in Hong Kong. He was later named senior vice president and general merchandise manager for Wal-Mart Stores, then promoted to senior vice president of merchandising for Sam's Club. In 1999, Campbell became president of the newly created Global Sourcing Division, which consolidated the company's procurement of all food, seasonals, general merchandise, hard goods and domestic products across all divisions for greater efficiency.
