Kroger Adds $4 Generic Scripts in 12 States

CINCINNATI -- The Kroger Co. here is rolling out a $4 generic prescription drug program in locations in 12 states, including the 129 pharmacies in its Indianapolis-based Central Division.

The $4 price will apply to more than 300 generic drugs prescribed for 30-day supplies. A list of the participating pharmacies and eligible generic drugs is available at www.kroger.com/generic or by calling 1-877-4RX-LIST (1-877-479-5478).

The Kroger initiative includes generic alternatives for some of the most commonly prescribed drugs used to treat conditions such as diabetes, asthma, depression, heart disease, thyroid conditions, and other health problems.

"Our customers can take advantage of low prices on generic drugs while continuing to rely on the expert, professional counsel of our pharmacists," said Bob Moeder, president of Krogeris Central Division. "Within the Central Division, our Peoria, Ill. stores were a test market in 2007, and the results were very successful. We received very strong customer support for the increased value this service provides.

"People wanting to take advantage of our generic drug program can easily make arrangements to transfer their prescriptions by calling participating Kroger pharmacies," added Moeder.

Separately, Kroger will offer generic versions of the family planning drugs Ortho Cyclen and Ortho Tri Cyclen (28-day supply), and a fertility drug for $9.
