Kroger Store Lights Way to Savings with Pilot LED Light Program
A Kroger supermarket in Peoria, Ill. is lighting the way to big savings, thanks to the completion of a pilot high-efficiency lighting project with Ameren Illinois Utilities that sharply cuts energy consumption in the frozen food reach-in cases and refrigerated dairy and beverage cases.
Considered a first-of-its type project involved replacing fluorescent lighting with high-efficiency LED lighting in frozen food reach-in cases and refrigerated dairy and beverage cases at the Kroger store at 9219 N. Lindbergh Ave. in Peoria, the new LED lighting is expected to yield annual energy cost savings of more than $9,000 for the one store alone.
"Kroger is to be congratulated for their aggressive electric energy efficiency initiatives, which will benefit their customers, employees and the communities they serve," said Stan Ogden, Ameren Illinois Utilities vice president of Customer Service and Public Relations.
Ogden presented John Elliott, public affairs manager of Kroger Central Division, with a $5,000 incentive check for the pilot program while sharing news that the Indianapolis-based Kroger unit will receive incentive payments totaling more than $100,000 when it completes the LED high-efficiency lighting installation at 22 Central and Southern Illinois stores within the Ameren service territory. In addition to the high-efficiency lighting project, Kroger will also install new high-efficiency electric motors in 10 stores to increase energy savings.
