Kroger's Boehm Earns Honorary Doctorate from Purdue for Agribusiness Leadership

CINCINNATI -- William Boehm, s.v.p. and president of manufacturing for The Kroger Co. based here, was awarded an honorary doctor of agriculture from Purdue University on May 13 for his exceptional work in agricultural economics.

"Bill's work with the Center for Agribusiness and the Department of Food Science and his guidance over the years has been a tremendous asset for our departments, the college, and the university," said Suzanne Nielsen, professor and head of the department of food science at Purdue University. "He is an exemplary mentor and we appreciate all of his efforts in this important field."

Boehm joined Kroger in 1981 as director of economic research and has since held several positions of increasing responsibility. As president of Kroger's manufacturing division, Boehm oversees 35 of the company's food processing plants, including its dairies, bakeries, grocery products and beverage plants.

Prior to joining Kroger, Boehm, who grew up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin, served as the senior economist for food and agriculture with the President's Council of Economic Advisors from 1979 to 1981. He also served as a senior economist and research manager with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He earned a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Wisconsin/River Falls and went on to earn an MS and a doctor of philosophy degree in agricultural economics from Purdue.
