Loblaw Touts Peanut-Free Private Label Products
To accommodate children with peanut allergies and schools and child care facilities with strict rules against bringing peanut products as lunch or snacks, Loblaw Cos., Ltd. is spotlighting new and existing peanut-free items under its President’s Choice and no name brands. The products sport prominent on-package logos, and the Canadian grocer’s stores have set up displays bearing peanut-free snack signs so parents can easily find what they need during the back-to-school season.
“As Canada’s largest grocery retailer, Loblaw is committed to expanding our product lines to reflect and serve the changing dietary needs of Canadians, especially for those who suffer from life-threatening allergies,” explained Paul Uys, VP of control label & fresh at Brampton, Ontario-based Loblaw. “[T]he products we produce in our off-site, peanut-free baking facility will provide peace of mind and great-tasting new options for Canadian families living with these allergies.”
The new freshly baked products are President’s Choice Teensy Weensy Muffins in Blueberry, Carrot, Banana and Chocolate Chip, which are individually wrapped and lunch-box ready, and President’s Choice Squares in Carrot Cake, Banana Cake and Brownie. Loblaw now carries 10 such private label items.
Other peanut-free items recommended by the grocer include President’s Choice Blue Menu Wheat Bran Bites, no name Low Fat Crispy Rice Squares, President’s Choice Cereal Bars and President’s Choice Granola Bars, which are all also prepared at Loblaw’s peanut-free facility.
Loblaw, a subsidiary of George Weston, Ltd., has over 1,000 corporate and franchised stores across Canada, and employs more than 139,000 full-time and part-time associates.
