Martin's Super Markets Adds Free Generic Antibiotics Program
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Following the lead of other grocers around the country, 20-store Martin's Super Markets here is now providing a free generic antibiotic program that covers eight of the most commonly prescribed generic oral antibiotics in their class to consumers with a doctor's prescription.
Pharmacy customers may receive up to a 21-day supply at normal dosages of antibiotics that include: Amoxicillin; Cephalexin; Sulfamethoxazole/Trimethoprim (SMZ/TMP); Ciprofloxacin; Penicillin VK; Ampicillin; Doxycycline; and Erythromycin (excluding Ery-Tab). The eight qualifying antibiotics represent nearly half of the generic pediatric prescriptions filled at pharmacies.
In order to obtain the free antibiotics, patients present a current doctor's generic prescription to any Martin's pharmacy, along with a Martin's Advantage Card. Martin's said it is making the cards available to customers at the pharmacy counter or at any customer service desk.
There is no limit on the number of qualifying prescriptions a customer may fill at no charge, the chain said, and both insured and uninsured patients may take advantage of this program. Free prescriptions filled under this program do not contribute as credits towards a Martin's Pharmacy Baker's Dozen card.
Although the program focuses on antibiotics commonly prescribed for children, adult dosage forms will be covered as well, Martin's said.
