Meijer, Harris Teeter Launch Pink Ribbon Produce Campaign

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. and MATTHEWS, N.C. - Meijer Inc. and Harris Teeter have once again signed on with Pink Ribbon Produce, a retail program committed to breast cancer prevention and awareness that will get under way in October.

The educational fundraising program teams the two grocery store retailers with 21 produce suppliers in an effort to raise support for chapters of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Both Meijer and Harris Teeter will direct shoppers to the participating produce suppliers with a new pink ribbon program icon on posters and POS wobblers.

"We're telling our shoppers to 'think pink' this month," said Jennifer Panetta, Harris Teeter's director of communications, who added consumers can look for the Pink Ribbon signage throughout the produce department to help them choose what to buy.

"We hope to see this campaign raise a lot of money so that we can help to eradicate breast cancer," Panetta said, noting that the retailer "is very committed to wellness through educating our shoppers about healthy food options."

Meijer's senior produce buyer Brian Coates concurred. "We have a unique opportunity as a grocer to reach people of many different ages and backgrounds with the important message of healthy eating as a way to prevent breast cancer," Coates said. "This month, we encourage our shoppers to think about the types of food they are buying and consider incorporating more fruits and vegetables. Not only is it a healthier option but you'll also be supporting an incredible organization working to find a cure for this disease."
