Metro's Prizewinning Private Label Breads Prove Irresistible

Canadian grocer Metro, Inc.'s selection of Irresistibles breads garnered first prize in the Private Label category at the 15th Annual Canadian Grand Prix New Product Awards, which was held in Victoria, B.C. in late May.

The competition, run by the Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors (CCGD), recognizes the quality, packaging, design, and originality of foods products. The prizewinning preservative-free Irresistibles line of breads, which includes Parisian, Ciabatta, and Belgian and multigrain Belgian varieties, was honored for overall quality and packaging.

Two other Metro private label products, Irresistibles pies and probiotic cereals, were finalists in the competition.

"This prestigious national award reinforces our commitment to always offer our customers tasty, high-quality foods," said Metro s.v.p., national procurement and corporate brands Johanne Choinière.

All entries in this year's competition had to have been introduced and made available for sale in Canada for the first time between Oct. 1, 2006 and Sept. 30, 2007.

Montreal-based Metro operates a network of nearly 600 food stores in Quebec and Ontario under the Metro, Metro Plus, Super C, A&P, Dominion, Loeb, and Food Basics banners, as well as over 250 pharmacies under the Brunet, Clini Plus, The Pharmacy, and Drug Basics banners.
