NGA Adds Manufacturers and Service Suppliers to Board for First Time
The National Grocers Association said its board of directors approved an amendment to current bylaws and approved four positions on its board for manufacturers and service suppliers.
This is a first for N.G.A, and the trade group said the move acknowledges the role suppliers play in the independent retailer and wholesaler grocery industry.
The four new board members will have full voting rights and privileges as do the existing retailer, wholesaler, and state association members.
The addition of the manufacturer/service supplier members to the N.G.A. board will ensure that representatives from all sectors of the food industry can collaborate and provide constructive input to others in the group on relevant issues, interact with key members of the food industry, and enhance business relationships with other segments in the industry, and address legislative and regulatory issues that impact the industry and consumers, NGA said.
The N.G.A. Executive Committee will make nominations for the four positions, which will go to the full board and associate membership prior to NGA's next Annual Convention and Supermarket Synergy Showcase in Las Vegas, February 3-6, 2009.
"N.G.A. is poised to take a big leap forward, and we will continue to deliver real value to our membership, and ultimately the consumer," said Mike Jackson, N.G.A. chairman, and president and c.o.o. of Supervalu. "These leaders' knowledge and experience will be invaluable to the N.G.A. as we move into the future."
