NGA, Pan-Oston to Give Away $60K of Equipment at Show
The National Grocers Association (NGA) and retail checkout equipment vendor Pan-Oston are teaming up at this year's 2009 NGA Annual Convention and Supermarket Synergy Showcase to hold several contests with awards totaling more than $60,000.
The winner of this year's U.S.A. Best Bagger Championship, in addition to winning the grand prize trophy and $2,000 cash prize, will also win a Pan-Oston one of a kind "Best Bagger Gold Lane" for their organization. The Gold Lane is a custom gold-colored Scan and Pass Vantage Lane with accessories, valued at approximately $6,000. The lane will include a brass plaque recognizing the Best Bagger winner and the store.
N.G.A. hosts the U.S.A. Best Bagger Championship each year to encourage and reward great customer service. The contest, which will be held Thursday, February 5t, is hosted by NBC's Today Show food editor and Supermarket Guru, Phil Lempert. Each year baggers from all over the United States compete to see who will win the title of America's Best Bagger. Contestants compete with a combination of paper and plastic, and are judged on their speed, technique, bag balance, and overall style.
In addition, NGA and Pan-Osten have developed a new competition, the N.G.A/Utopia Self-Checkout Scan-Off, which is designed to demonstrate the productivity gains and cost reductions possible with the Utopia self-checkout solution. The winner of the Self-Checkout Scan-Off (fastest time for unloading, scanning, bagging, and reloading a shopping cart) will win a Utopia self-checkout Innovation lane for their organization, valued at approximately $30,000, and the five runners-up will win an Apple I Pod Touch (value $1,500). The Self-Checkout Scan-Off is open to senior executives of NGA member retail companies who can authorize the installation of the prize in a store.
To pre-register for the Self-Checkout Scan-Off, contact Christine Cunnick at [email protected] or call (703) 516-0700.
Lastly, Pan-Oston will donate all products on display at the Pan-Oston S3 Concept Show Area (excluding Utopia products). Auction bids will be made at the Asparagus Cub auction event and funds raised will go to the Asparagus Club Scholarship Program. Value of display products is approximately $25,000.
NGA member retail companies are pre-approved to receive member benefits such as economy pricing, unique programs, technology and support services on all Pan-Oston retail checkout and display products inclusive of the patent pending Utopia self-checkout solution.
