No Frills to Open Fresh-Format Store in West Omaha
No Frills Fresh will open its first West Omaha supermarket in Baker Square shopping center this fall, and the store will be a key component in a multimillion-dollar renovation of the entire center.
“There is no better location in Omaha,” said No Frills president and CEO Fred Witecy. “This gives us a tremendous opportunity to fulfill the needs of the area with our expanded fresh selections and commitment to affordable shopping.”
Jack Baker, president of Omaha-based real estate development and management company PDM, Inc., sees Baker Square continuing to be one of Omaha’s preferred shopping locations. “Baker Square opened over 35 years ago and developed into a favorite place to go for Omaha shoppers,” he said. “With No Frills Fresh as our new supermarket anchor and a total redesign of the entire shopping center, Baker Square will retain its reputation as a premier retail location for many years to come.”
The 160,000-square-foot shopping center will undergo a complete architectural renovation to reinforce its landmark image. The project will include the use of new natural materials, enhanced building profiles and accent lighting. Mechanical and other energy-saving modifications will also be added to promote energy conservation.
The 61,000-square-foot supermarket will be No Frills’ 17th. The grocer also plans to open a store in Elkhorn, Neb., next year.
The recently introduced No Frills “Fresh” store model includes an expanded selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, in-store butchers providing custom cuts of beef and pork, and fresh seafood. No Frills Fresh also features an in-store full-service bakery and deli. Among the many customer conveniences planned for the new store are a floral shop, a pharmacy and an organic food department.
Omaha, Neb.-based No Frills operates 16 supermarkets in Nebraska and Iowa.
