NSF Unveils Certification Training for Supermarket Managers

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- With food safety becoming even more important for supermarkets as many add ready-to-eat foods to their deli, produce, and meat departments, NSF's Center for Public Health Education has released a new supermarket version of its popular HealthGuard food manager certification training program.

The new HealthGuard course contains quizzes, pictures, case studies, and languages that meet the unique needs of supermarket managers and staff.

"With the increasing demand from government and consumers for safe, high-quality food, this new training series provides supermarket managers and their staff the information they need to help protect customers from foodborne illness," said Nancy Quay, executive director of the NSF Center for Public Health Education, in a statement.

The training covers foodborne illness, employee health and hygiene, potentially hazardous foods, cleaning and sanitizing, pest control, and HACCP standards. The course prepares students for any of the exams recognized by the Conference for Food Protection based on the August 2003 Supplement to the 2001 Food Code.

The Center for Public Health Education also offers customized courses to individual supermarket chains.
