Nugget Market Moves Up To No. 12 On Fortune's '100 Best' List

WOODLAND, Calif. -- Nugget Market, Inc. here has scored a hat trick by being named a winner on Fortune's list of "100 Best Companies to Work For" for the third consecutive year. What's more, the independent grocer moving up a notch to No. 12 on the prestigious national list, from the 13th slot in 2007. It was 33rd in 2006.

The 10-store family-held independent was once again recognized for its industry-leading healthcare benefits, work-life balance, and unique corporate culture.

Nugget Market's president and c.e.o. Eric Stille said while he's "ecstatic" about the recognition that obviously "means a lot to all of us...the goal is not just to make the list," but rather "to give our valued associates an exceptional workplace. Since the evaluation process provides a 360 degree look at our company, making the list is an encouraging affirmation that we're succeeding."

In addition to its No. 12 overall ranking, the regional grocer was further acknowledged for its outstanding healthcare benefits and thus ranked No. 9 for work-life balance, the magazine's second-ranked small business, and No. 12 in job growth, the latter which rose 20 percent from 2007.

In addition to providing workers with industry-leading wages and benefits, Stille and his management team encourage Nugget associates to have fun and be creative. Spontaneous celebrations, including trips, rewards and recognitions, happen frequently throughout the year.

Founded in 1926 by Stille's great-grandfather and grandfather, Nugget Market, Inc. has seven Nugget Markets and three Food 4 Less stores in the Northern California region. An eighth Nugget Market will open on January 30th in El Dorado Hills, Calif.
