Nugget Markets Acquires Paradise Foods

1/29/2015

Woodland, Calif.-based Nugget Markets will add three stores and 150 associates to its existing family with the acquisition of Paradise Foods, which operates locations in the Marin County communities of Novato, Corte Madera and Tiburon, Calif.

Eric Stille, CEO and owner of Nugget Markets, is pumped about the possibilities of the Paradise Foods purchase, terms of which were not disclosed. “We’ve been looking to expand into the Marin community for a number of years and when (Paradise Foods President David Gilmour) approached us, I knew it was a perfect fit. Paradise Foods and Nugget Markets share similar goals and values, and we both have built our businesses on quality, selection and service,” noted Stille.

Paradises Foods’ three neighborhood markets offer an extensive selection of natural, organic and local products, as well as a full line of prepared foods, as well as full-service catering.

“I am thrilled to have found a strong retailer (Nugget Markets) that will continue to offer my employees a dynamic culture and a secure work environment, while maintaining a strong focus on quality perishables, local and organic groceries, and our community,” said Gilmour.

After remodeling, all three Paradise stores will eventually be converted to Nugget Markets.

“It’s been a pleasure to serve and support Marin County for the past 14 years,” added Gilmour, who expressed thanks to all who supported the three community-based markets through the years. With the sale of Paradise Foods, Gilmour said he plans to focus on establishing the Marin office for Awareness Foundation America.

A fixture on Fortune Magazine’s list of “100 Best Companies to Work For” for nine consecutive years, Nugget Markets currently operates nine namesake supermarkets in the greater Sacramento Valley, along with two Food 4 Less stores in Woodland and Vallejo, Calif., and its recently launched new concept Fork Lift by Nugget Markets location in Cameron Park.
