Office Depot to Open Mini-Stores in Stop & Shops
DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - Leading office products retailer Office Depot Inc. on Thursday said it plans to open shops inside some Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. stores.
Office Depot said it will open 15 "stores-within-a-store" in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York over the next four months. If those perform well, more with be opened.
The stores will sell office products, including paper, printer cartridges and school supplies.
Stop & Shop, a division of Ahold USA, earlier this year signed on with Boston Market and Dunkin' Donuts in similar ventures. Two other Ahold divisions, Tops Friendly Markets and Giant Food, have been testing mini-toy store concepts by Toys "R" Us.
Stop & Shop, based in Quincy, Mass., operates 330 stores in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York and New Jersey.
