OGA Inducts Baker’s IGA Owners into Hall of Fame

Gary and Terrie Baker, owners of Baker’s IGA, were inducted into the Ohio Grocers Hall of Fame at a lunch event at Raven’s Glenn Winery and Italian Restaurant.

“The Ohio Grocers Hall of Fame is the highest honor we can bestow on a member of Ohio’s food industry,” said Nate Filler, president/CEO of the Ohio Grocers Association. “Gary and Terrie’s steadfast commitment to quality, customer service and their community make them an outstanding choice for this special recognition.”

Although the roots of the Baker’s stores can be traced back to 1918 when Gary’s Baker’s grandfather E.L. “Pop” Baker started the company along with his partner, Hillyer, Gary opened his first Baker’s IGA in Newcomerstown in 1974. He married Terrie in 1978 and she started working in the store learning the business from the ground up. Today, 40 years later, Gary and Terrie have grown their operation to include five stores, operating IGAs in Newcomerstown, Scio, Coshocton, and Sugarcreek, and a Save A Lot store in Millersburg with Gary as president and Terrie as VP and CFO. The Bakers are active members in their church and community with Gary serving on the executive committee of OGA’s board and Terrie serving on the National Retail Advisory Board for IGA and the National Grocers Association board. As a testament to their exceptional service, they have both received numerous recognitions of their achievements in the industry.

Since its inception in 2000, induction into the Ohio Grocers Hall of Fame is granted to individuals who have dedicated their lives to the Ohio food industry. Inductees are nominated by fellow Ohio members and approved by a nominating committee. “The entire OGA membership congratulates Gary and Terrie and the entire Baker family on this achievement,” Filler said
