Peapod by Stop & Shop Opens New Long Island Facility
BRAINTREE, Mass. -- Internet grocer Peapod, LLC and Stop & Shop have opened a third facility on New York's Long Island in response to consumer demand, the companies said.
The facility opened last week at the Stop & Shop in South Setauket, N.Y., which is located on the North Shore in Suffolk County, Peapod spokeswoman Elana Margolis told Progressive Grocer. The other two Long Island facilities are in Medford and New Hyde Park.
"Our growth on Long Island reflects the demand for this service," said Peapod president Andrew Parkinson in a statement.
Residents and businesses in most Suffolk and Nassau County ZIP codes are now able to visit Stop & Shop's Web site to shop for fresh fruits and vegetables, seafood, meat and dairy, in addition to national brands and Stop & Shop private label items.
The site allows shoppers to draw up personal lists, read nutrition information online, sort products by price or nutrition criteria, and receive personalized online coupons. To expedite their first Internet shopping trip, Stop & Shop cardholders can choose from a list of items they've bought at their local Stop & Shop by entering their card number online. Groceries can be delivered as soon as the following day after the order is placed.
Peapod by Stop & Shop has also expanded service to more Queens County communities, among them Bayside, Cambria Heights, College Point, Flushing, Fresh Meadows, Hollis, Jamaica, Rosedale, Saint Albans, Springfield Gardens, and Whitestone.
Stop & Shop and Peapod are both owned by Amsterdam-based Royal Ahold, which operates over 800 supermarkets in the United States and around the world. Peapod serves 17 U.S. markets, including the metropolitan areas of Chicago; Boston; Long Island, N.Y.; and Washington, D.C., as well as communities in the states of Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Virginia, and Rhode Island.
