Price Chopper Opens 115th Store
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- The Golub Corp.'s Price Chopper Supermarkets here yesterday opened a 46,000-square-foot super center in the village of Sidney, N.Y. The store, the Northeast regional grocer's 115th, employs 100 full and part-time associates, and the store manager is Terry Jerauld.
Immediately following a flag raising at 8:30 a.m., Price Chopper president and c.e.o. Neil Golub was joined by Sidney mayor Jim Warren, town supervisor Joseph Maddalone, and other civic and political leaders to officially "chop" the ribbon.
"We are confident that consumers here will appreciate the superior quality and value of what Price Chopper has to offer," noted Golub in a statement. "We are truly committed to bringing 'the best in fresh-and low prices' to Sidney."
The store features such signature perishable departments as a produce department with both exotic and seasonal items; a large variety of meats, including Certified Angus Beef, USDA choice beef, Grade A poultry, and Western grain-fed pork; artisan breads in more than two dozen varieties and old-fashioned bagels made in-store; an award-winning seafood department offering personalized custom-cut service and the option of frying or steaming any purchase free of charge; a prepared foods counter providing rotisserie chickens, fresh-made Bella Roma pizzas, grilled pannini, and sub sandwiches, among other items; and Price Chopper's "Central Market Florist" section.
Price Chopper held a fundraising reception the night before the opening to preview the new store and to help raise funds for the Sidney High School Yearbook committee and the Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda, Inc.; United Way of Sidney; and Habitat for Humanity of Delaware County. A $5-per-person donation was requested at the door.
The family-owned Golub Corporation owns and operates Price Chopper grocery stores in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. Golub's approximately 23,000 associates collectively own 55 percent of the company's privately held stock.
