Price Chopper to Sell Irradiated Ground Beef
SAN DIEGO - Northeast retailer Price Chopper is the latest supermarket to sign on with SureBeam Corporation to offer shoppers irradiated ground beef. Hy-Vee just announced that it will sell the products throughout the Midwest.
"Growing concern by consumers for the safety of the food products they purchase makes the decision to offer SureBeam processed fresh ground beef an easy one," said Neil Golub, president and CEO of Price Chopper. "Proven to be a safe way to reduce the risk of food-borne illness, the SureBeam technology also allows Price Chopper to maintain the high quality and nutritional value of our fresh ground beef product."
Price Chopper is selling SureBeam processed fresh ground beef in four varieties that include one- and three-pound packages of 80-percent and 93-percent lean.
Price Chopper operates 102 stores and is a leading food retailer in a six state region. Located throughout New York, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont and Pennsylvania, Price Chopper is headquartered in Schenectady, N.Y.
