Procter & Gamble to Sell Some Clairol Brands
CHICAGO - Procter & Gamble Co. said on Monday it wants to sell some of the lesser-known brands it acquired in its purchase of shampoo maker Clairol in order to focus on more profitable global brands, Reuters reports.
P&G said that it will continue to operate the businesses if suitable buyers are not found. The brands under consideration for sale include Sea Breeze, an astringent and facial cleanser P&G markets in North America under license from Shiseido; Ammens, a talcum powder sold in several countries, as well as a shampoo and cologne sold in Peru; Condition 3-in-1 hair styling products sold in North America; and Vitapointe, a hair grooming product sold in North America.
P&G acquired Clairol in November from Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. for $4.95 billion. The deal added well-known products such as Herbal Essence Shampoo and Nice & Easy hair color to its own stable of big brands like Head & Shoulders and Pantene shampoos.
