Publix Buys Winn-Dixie Lease

7/5/2018
Publix is growing its footprint through acquisitions in Florida and Alabama

Publix Super Markets has acquired a lease from Winn-Dixie, a banner of Jacksonville, Fla.-based Southeastern Grocers.

The site is within the Paradise Isle Shopping Center, in Gulf Shores, Ala., marking Publix’s second store in the area.

Southeastern Grocers, which recently emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, has closed 94 stores as part of its financial restructuring

“We’re excited about the growth opportunities within our operating area, and adding a second location in Gulf Shores will help us better serve this community,” noted Todd Jones, CEO and president of Lakeland, Fla.-based Publix.

The grand-opening date for the store under its new banner has not yet been revealed.

The acquisition comes on the heels of Publix’s purchase of the three remaining Florida Safeway stores from Boise, Idaho-based Albertsons Cos. last month.
