Publix Hires VP of Gov’t Relations

Publix Super Markets Inc. has named John Provenzano its VP of government relations. In his new role, Provenzano will assume responsibilities for the company’s local, state and federal government affairs, in addition to its political action committee, effective June 12.

“His focus on establishing long-term, nonpartisan relationships within Congress will make him a valuable member of our Publix team,” noted Publix CEO and President Todd Jones.

Provenzano is currently executive director of the National Association of State Treasurers (NAST), in which capacity he is responsible for overseeing all association activities, including membership, conference planning and government affairs, and re-establishing NAST’s 501(c)(3) foundation. Before that, he was government affairs director for Delta Air Lines.

Although he will spend part of his time in Washington, D.C., Provenzano and his family will relocate to Florida, where he will be based at Publix headquarters in Lakeland.

Privately owned and operated by its 190,000 employees, Publix has 1,145 stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina and North Carolina.
