Publix Offers Free Amlodipine

Publix Pharmacy has begun offering free 30-day supplies (up to 60 tablets of 2.5 milligrams and 5 milligrams, or up to 30 tablets of 10 milligrams) of amlodipine, a calcium-channel blocker commonly used to treat high blood pressure and angina (chest pain), to customers with a prescription for the medication. Amlodipine combination products are excluded from the offer.

"The health and wellness of our customers is important to us at the Publix Pharmacy," said Maria Brous, director of media and community relations at the Lakeland, Fla.-based grocer. "With health care and prescription costs continuing to rise, medication adherence may prove challenging. We continue to enhance our free prescription programs and pharmacy services to allow our customers to focus on staying healthy and achieving their overall wellness goals."

According to Publix, it's the first retailer in the Southeast to offer amlodipine at no cost.

Other free medications offered by Publix Pharmacy are Lisinopril (an ACE inhibitor used to prevent, treat or improve symptoms of high blood pressure, some heart conditions, diabetes and some chronic kidney conditions) and Metformin, as part of the company's Diabetes Management System, in addition to no-cost 14-day supplies of the generic oral antibiotics amoxicillin, ampicillin, ciprofloxacin (excluding Ciprofloxacin XR), penicillin VK, and sulfamethoxazole/Trimethoprim (SMZ-TMP).
