Publix Store-brand Vanilla Wafers Recalled on Undeclared Ingredient

Toufayan Bakery, manufacturer of Publix Vanilla Wafers, said it is recalling a limited number of 12-ounce boxes of the store-brand cookies because they may contain undeclared soy, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The product was distributed to Publix stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and Tennessee.

"The recall was initiated after the discovery of gingersnap cookies co-packaged with vanilla wafers. This resulted in the undeclared soy ingredient," said Roy Peterson, Toufayan Bakery general manager, in a news release distributed by the FDA. "As part of the Publix commitment to food safety, they are asking customers to return the product for a full refund or replacement. There have been no reported cases of illness."

People who are allergic to soy may risk a serious or possibly life-threatening allergic reaction if they eat the recalled product.
