Redner’s Campaigns to ‘Bag Hunger’
Redner’s Warehouse Markets is asking its customers to fight hunger in a big way by donating something small -- namely, $1. The Reading, Pa.-based grocer and Quick Shoppes subsidiary will serve as collection sites from Aug. 30 to Oct. 3 during its Bag Hunger campaign, which coincides with Feeding America’s commemoration of September as Hunger Action Month.
As part of the campaign, Redner’s front end associates will ask all customers to donate $1 when they check out. Customers will be encouraged to write messages on Bag Hunger paper pinups, which will be showcased throughout the stores. Proceeds will be donated to the local Feeding America branch to ensure that funds are used within the community in which they are collected. Feeding America estimates that a $1 donation will feed three meals to recipients of food bank support.
A longtime active partner with local food agencies such as the Greater Berks Food Bank and Maryland Food Bank in the fight against hunger, Redner’s is also a top donor within its Berks County, Pa., home base, for which nearly 100,000 pounds of product were donated in the past year. Recent foods donated include cheese, fruit juices, and fresh cherries. All of the products received from Redner’s are distributed to food pantries, soup kitchens and shelter meal programs supplied by these agencies.
Employee-owned Redner’s operates 38 Warehouse Markets and 13 Quick Shoppes throughout Eastern Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware.
