Reports: Meijer Adding Sites In Cincy
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Meijer, Inc. has plans to open at least three new locations in greater Cincinnati, according to various reports.
The retailer is said to be looking at locations in Colerain Township, southern Lebanon and Fairfield, Ohio, and is reportedly working with developers on specific projects in those areas as scouts for additional locations.
Meijer real estate manager Greg Heath was quoted in the Cincinnati Business Courier as saying: "There's pockets of opportunity in the Cincinnati market that we feel are just being underserved. We understand with fierce competition coming in, too, that they're going to do what they need to do and we're going to do what we need to do."
A call placed to Meijer seeking additional information was not immediately returned.
Wal-Mart and Kroger are both entrenched in the Cincinnati market. Wal-Mart is reportedly eyeing as many as 20 supercenters, with 11 already confirmed or built, while Cincinnati-based Kroger last year acquired eight local Thriftways and opened an additional nine Krogers.
In other Meijer news, the company yesterday announced several promotions in its merchandising department:
--Terry Griffith, divisional v.p. hardlines, will assume the role of divisional v.p. merchandising.
--Rob Gruen, group v.p. softlines, will take on additional responsibilities and become group v.p. softlines/home.
--Tim Lesneski, v.p. of health and beauty care/pharmacy, will be promoted to group v.p., hardlines and drug store. Lesneski and Gruen will oversee the general merchandise division at Meijer.
--Rob Atteberry, v.p. of merchandising, will be promoted to v.p. hardlines.
--Ruth McCarthy joins Meijer as v.p. home.
--Nat Love, currently director of merchandise planning and category management, will be promoted to v.p. drug store.
