Ring. Bros. Marketplace to Hold Free Wine Tasting Class
Harney's Liquors, one of six independently-operated businesses that make up Ring Bros Marketplace, will offer free wine tasting classes every Wednesday from October 15 through December 17 in an effort to encourage its shoppers to expand their wine palettes.
The class, Harvey's second annual tasting, will be taught by Ed Makuta, the grocer's resident sommelier. "I hope to teach people to be more confident and comfortable going to the wine store," Makuta said. "With the information provided in these classes they will gain the knowledge and confidence to try new wines."
Makuta has worked in various wine stores for over eight years, and before that was a chef/owner of a restaurant in South Yarmouth for 16 years. "Ed has been doing a great job, the customers really enjoy his recommendations and is knowledge of wine is vast," said Harvey's owner Marc Riengold.
This class will concentrate on different grape varietals, starting with a basic introduction to wine.
The full class schedule is:
- October 15: Introduction to wine
- October 22: Chardonnay
- October 29: Merlot
- November 5: Pinot gris/grigio
- November 12: Cabernet Sauvignon
- November 19: Sauvignon blanc
- December 3: Pinot noir
- December 10: Other whites
- December 17: Other reds
In addition to lectures, participants will sample various wines that tie into that week's class.
Ring Bros. consists of six independently owned businesses: Ring Bros., which specializes in fresh produce, dairy, and grocery products; Harney's Liquors offers a selection of wines, craft brews, and top shelf liquors; Dark Horse Beef and Deli offers all natural beef, chicken, cheese, and deli products; Spinner's Pizza & Burrito prepares gourmet pizzas, burritos, take home meals, and homemade desserts; Chatham Fish & Lobster features fresh fish, shellfish, and lobster; and Nata's Noodles and Montilio's Express offer desserts, freshly made pasta, and prepared gourmet foods.
