RIP: Bill MacAloney

Bill MacAloney, president and CEO of Jax Markets and a Food Marketing Institute (FMI) board member for three decades, died Wednesday at age 78 after a battle with cancer.

An active leader in the food industry, MacAloney served on the FMI board from 1984 until last year, during which he held the positions of vice chairman for public affairs and FoodPAC committee chairman. In 1999, he received the Glenn P. Woodard Public Service Award for his leadership in public affairs. Under his leadership, the industry benefited from numerous victories in areas such as PACA funding, price accuracy issues and actively influencing policy on the food stamp program, WIC, EBT and energy deregulation.

Longtime Industry Leadership

In 2013, MacAloney was named a FMI Distinguished Industry Leader for his longtime leadership and commitment to FMI and the food industry. He also served on the boards of Western Association of Food Chains, Unified Grocers and California Grocers Association, and as president of the Food Industries Circle for the City of Hope. Active in politics and in his local community, he served as mayor of his hometown of Villa Park, Calif.

Born Oct. 17, 1935, MacAloney is survived by Gwen, his wife of 47 years. Services are pending.
