Roundy's Foundation Gives $10K to Food Pantry
MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Pick 'n Save store manager Jim Gauden presided over a delivery of 6,863 pounds of food to a local food shelter, courtesy of the Roundy's Foundation based here. The donation made to the Portage, Wis. Food Pantry was valued at $10,148 and included tuna, cereal, peanut butter, various lunch meats and pasta, fruit cocktail, soup, beef stew, and pancake and waffle mix.
Gauden brought with him a team from the Pick 'n Save he manages in Portage, along with volunteers from the pantry, who unloaded all the donated food in a little under an hour.
"When we purchased the Pick 'n Save in Portage, we inherited a wonderful staff in a wonderful community," said Robert Mariano, chairman and c.e.o. of Roundy's Supermarkets and president of the Roundy's Foundation. "Delivering this load of food is just one way of thanking the community for welcoming us as their neighbors." Mariano added that "relieving hunger is also important to Roundy's, and we were glad to find a food pantry that is doing a tremendous job in the Portage community."
Chartered in August 2003, the Roundy's Foundation is dedicated to hunger relief, families in crisis and literacy, and since its inception has given more than $1,000,000 to organizations focused on community service in those areas of need. Major grant recipients include food banks, women and family violence shelters and literacy programs throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota.
