Roundy's Joins Rebate Check Parade
As the latest retailer seeking to help shoppers spend their economic stimulus checks, Roundy's Supermarkets is encouraging customers to bring their government checks to any Pick 'n Save, Copps, or Rainbow store to redeem them for store gift cards that will pump up the value and give them free Roundy's products.
Similar to an incentive program launched by Supervalu last week, the Roundy's program promises that for every $300 in Roundy's gift card purchases, the grocer will give shoppers an extra $30. Customers will also be able to purchase less than the total amount of their check in $300 increments.
"These are tough times and we realize that our customers are looking for ways to stretch their dollars," said Robert Mariano, chairman and c.e.o. of the Milwaukee-based Roundy's. "This program is aimed to do that, and I am personally throwing in a 'Chairman Bob Bonus' that will help stretch their grocery budgets even more."
The Chairman Bob Bonus includes a Roundy's reusable grocery bag, Roundy's 16 oz. loaf of white or wheat bread; Roundy's half-gallon of regular or organic milk; and Roundy's dozen large eggs.
The chain added its private label products already are priced 15-20 percent lower than equivalent national brand items.
With nearly $4 billion in sales, Roundy's operates 153 retail grocery stores under the Pick 'n Save, Copps, Rainbow, and Metro Market banners in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
