Roundy’s Reaches Out to Needy With Thanksgiving Meal Donations
Roundy’s Supermarkets, Inc. and the Roundy’s Foundation are once again responding to the growing need to feed the hungry in Wisconsin and Minnesota with donations surpassing $80,000 for food banks and meal programs.
The Milwaukee-based retailer is supporting the following local anti-hunger agencies this holiday season through such efforts as:
—A gift of $40,645 to the Hunger Task Force in Milwaukee included cereal valued at $26,344.80 that consisted of 696 cases of cereal on 28 pallets, plus a check for $14,300 to purchase milk and other items to complete the breakfast meal
—A donation of $5,000 in gift cards to the House of Peace went to the organization’s Holiday Baskets Program. Additionally, Roundy’s and Pick ’n Save donated 60 turkeys to Thanksgiving baskets in partnership with the Milwaukee Bucks and the Michael Redd Foundation
—For the fourth year, Roundy’s and the Blood Center of Wisconsin joined forces to help increase the number of blood donors in addition to feeding the hungry in the grocer’s communities during holiday season. The partnership is called the “Thanks for Giving” campaign. For every 20 donors, Roundy’s and the blood center donate one turkey to feed needy families. A total of 400 turkeys were delivered this week, 180 of which went to the Hunger Task Force, with the remaining 320 sent to food pantries in Waukesha, West Bend, Racine, Kenosha, Sheboygan, Manitowoc, Lake Mills, La Crosse and Marshfield, Wis.
—The Roundy’s Foundation made a $28,838 donation to the “Stuff the Bus” food drive that benefits Feeding America-Eastern Wisconsin. The gift included a check for $10,000, plus soup valued at $18,838.08 that consisted of 748 cases weighing 262 pounds. Additionally, the Pick ’n Save produce department added a donation of potatoes and onions valued at $3,500.
—For the fourth year, Roundy’s Rainbow Market at 1566 University Ave. West will bake and donate up 1,200 pumpkin pies for St. Paul, Minn.’s Meals on Wheels’ Thanksgiving deliveries. The store’s bakery department works around the clock to prepare, bake and package pies for this donation, on top of its regular busy Thanksgiving duties
