Safeway Names New Denver Division President

Safeway Inc. has appointed of Al Duran to the position of president of the Pleasanton, Calif.-based grocer’s Denver division. Duran replaces Scott Grimmett, who is leaving Safeway to become EVP/COO of Golub Corp./Price Chopper in Schenectady, N.Y.

"Al's results-oriented leadership style and experience on both the retail and the marketing side of our business will serve him well in his new assignment," noted Safeway Chairman President and CEO Steve Burd. "He is also a Colorado native and knows that market well."

Duran joined Safeway's Denver division in 1979, and rose through the ranks in such roles as senior retail operations and marketing positions in the Phoenix and Dominick's divisions. He became part of Safeway's corporate team in 2009 as VP of retail initiatives.
