Schnucks to host Frieda's Produce University for Chinese New Year
The St. Louis-based retailer's eponymous and Logli locations are once again teaming with Frieda's, Inc. to present the lively, hands-on session that gives shoppers an opportunity to see, touch, taste and ask questions about a variety of Asian specialties that make up a quintessential Chinese New Year feast.
"Chinese New Year is the perfect food-focused occasion for learning about the great variety of fresh Asian specialties," said Mike O'Brien, Schnucks' v.p. of produce. "Produce University is a great way to broaden our customers' tastes and highlight our produce teams as knowledgeable and dependable resources."
Since 1989, Frieda's Produce University has helped educate consumers with in-depth product information, preparation ideas and samples of the latest specialty fruits and vegetables within grocers' produce departments.
"As more people cook at home, shoppers are seeking exciting new ingredients to spice up meals," said Karen Caplan, president/CEO of Los Alamitos, Calif.-based Frieda's. "Produce University provides the information shoppers need to boldly go into their produce aisles and taste something new."
The session will cover festive citrus fruits like oroblancos, kumquats and pummelos, along with flavorful fresh ginger root and versatile egg roll and won ton wrappers from Frieda's. Other key ingredients include Frieda's Asian noodle varieties (chow mein, udon, yakisoba), mori-nu Tofu, daikon radish, and stir-fry vegetables such as water-packed water chestnuts, bamboo shoots and baby corn, as well as fresh snow peas, sugar snap peas and baby bok choy. Various specialties will be sampled as part of this ongoing produce education program.
