Schnucks Wants to Clean Up with Green Section
:With Earth Day less than a week away, Schnucks Markets, Inc. said it is bowing a new line of eco-friendly cleansers and household items, in a new green cleaning section in its stores.
The regional chain is seeking to persuade St. Louis area shoppers to think of Schnucks as a "green destination" for home care options, said Lori Caster, Schnucks v.p./center store. "We take pride in the fact that Schnucks not only offers the highest quality products, but we sell a whole host of products that are healthier for you to use at home and guaranteed not to harm the environment," Caster said.
"Schnucks now carries nearly 300 different natural and organic products in its Full Circle line," said Caster. "This is a category that will continue to grow as we all work together to become better caretakers of our bodies and our environment."
Joe Duggan, Schnucks category manager said the green cleaning section will include eco-friendly products from brands such as Clorox Green Works, Seventh Generation Cleaners, and Method.
Duggan said most leading laundry detergent manufacturers have concentrated their formulas by 50 percent, allowing for smaller bottles using less plastic. He said the detergent aisle set at all Schnucks stores has been reconfigured to accommodate the smaller sizes, and manufacturers have provided shelf signs explaining the change and offering instructions on how to use the concentrated product.
Schnucks house brand products are also ahead of the trend, said Tom McMunn, Schnucks director of private brands. "Our Full Circle line of natural and organic products recently introduced laundry and household cleaning items at a price lower than the national brands and just as effective."
McMunn said all Full Circle household and cleaning items are eco-friendly and biodegradable. "They are safe for septic systems and developed from renewable resources which will appeal to our customers, many of whom are becoming more environmentally conscious and tell us they appreciate how we have responded with these very affordable products," he said.
Schnucks shoppers should keep their eyes open for additional new green products. Schnuck Markets, Inc. operates 103 stores (including five Logli stores) and 100 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Tennessee and Mississippi.
